A little about our service area…
Leatherhead dates back to Anglo Saxon England, with the Domesday Book of 1086 featuring a reference to ‘Leret’, referring to Leatherhead. Not only this, but Hawk’s Hill, just on the west side of the river is believed to be an old Saxon burial ground, an area fawned over by local historians.
The town is situated on the right bank of the River Mole, and has an interesting tale about Elizabeth I. Apparently on her way back to London one night, there had been a great deal of rain in a short period, and the river had flooded. She and her entourage were forced to seek rest in the Running Horse pub, a drinking hole which dates back to 1403.
Today, Leatherhead is a mixture of period buildings and modern supermarkets and shopping facilities. Over the last decade much has been spent on re-developing the town with lots of aesthetically-pleasing communal areas.
