A little about our service area…
Part of the London Borough or Merton, Morden was once home to several Celtic tribes. However, the construction of Stane Street or Chichester (named by the Saxons) in 43 AD, paved the way for its development. It was also part of the Wallington Hundred, under the West Minister Abbey. After Henry VII disbanded all the Catholic priories, friaries, convents and monasteries in England, Morden was sold to the Garth family, which made them Lord of the Manor. In 1907, Morden was included in the Merton Urban District and eventually merged with Merton to form a new urban district in 1913. Today, Morden boasts of a mixture of green open spaces and business centres. It is also the end of London’s Northern Line.
Morden Hall Park, which is located along the banks of River Wandle, is the district’s natural feature. The 125-acre parkland is home to Morden Hall and other historic buildings. St. Lawrence Church, a Grade 1-listed building, was built in 1630. Bait’ul Futuh, the biggest mosque in Western Europe, is located beside the district’s South Railway. These are some of the interesting landmarks in Morden.
Morden can be access via the Tube (Morden Underground Station), Morden South Railway, Morden Road Tram Stop or the day and night buses from London General garage.
