    Bi-folding Doorset for Painshill

Painshill, near Cobham in Surrey is a beautiful 18th Century Landscape Park, which was designed and created between 1738 & 1773 by the Hon, Charles Hamilton.

In 1981, Painshill Park Trust (a registered charity) headed by CEO Michael Gove was formed to restore the Park, and 1998 Painshill was granted Grade 1 Listing and was awarded the Europa Nostra Medal for its exemplary restoration.

As part of the on-going maintenance programme the Specialist in Traditional Sash Windows were awarded the project of transforming the rear of Mr Hamilton’s Tea Room. The tired 4 part aluminium sliding door, which had now become too heavy to function was to be replaced with a versatile Accoya 7 Part Bi-folding Doorset. The cost of which was partially donated by Matthew Lord Managing Director of The Specialist in Traditional Sash Windows.

Before – Aluminium Doors unfit for purpose

After – Beautiful & Functional Accoya Doors

The many benefits of replacing the single sliding door with a Bi-folding Doorset include the ability to fully open the entire rear of the Tea Room so that the idyllic views across Painshill Park remain open to those enjoying a bite to eat and a cup of tea.

After the Survey Drawings were completed and final specification agreed The Specialist in Traditional Sash Window’s Installation Team worked tirelessly across a 3 day period to safely remove the original doors and replace with the new.

The finished product completed and approved by both Michael Gove CEO Painshill Park Trust & Matthew Lord MD The Specialist in Traditional Sash Windows.

Accoya is suitable for all exterior wood applications where long life, low maintenance and a low whole life cost are required. Most frequent usage in the UK is for windows, doors and cladding. But applications do not end there as balconies, decking, platters and boats have all been made from Accoya by British companies.

Bridges are also being constructed. The largest in The Netherlands open in Autumn ’08 and support 2 lanes of traffic across a 30 metre span. The bridge has a design life of 80 years.
