Everything You Need to Know About Sash Windows
The Project
At the client’s charming townhouse in Buckinghamshire, the 2 pairs of French doors from the lounge to the front balcony were creating a poor first impression of the home and the client specified the following issues:
Client – Mrs. Jackson: “Due to their deteriorating condition we were keen to replace the doors as they were letting the rest of the house down. The original doors were draughty and let cold air in easily during the Winter months, the fixtures were tarnished, the locks were becoming difficult to open and close, the paint finish was bubbling and cracking, the wood was rotting in many places and our attempts to fill the cavities had limited success!”
The Process
Having met Mrs. Jackson to quote on the project, we sent a team to thoroughly measure the doors and frames and to detail the various requirements – including the request for more secure locking and the requirement from the house’s property management company of the development that doors have to be a like-for-like replacements to uphold the smart appearance of the development.
A convenient date for the fitting of the new doors was arranged and our specialist joiners began work on creating the doors in our custom built workshop. Over the course of 2 days the old doors, door frames and door steps were removed and replaced with the below results:
The Results
The doors were created to exactly match the detailing of the original doors, with a fixtures and a new door step added:
Mrs. Jackson choose the locks and door furniture that she preferred as an upgrade from the tired looking and difficult to open/close original locks and furniture:
The finished doors create a much better impression, match the original detailing precisely and have high quality insulation and fixtures. As shown below, the more secure and easier to use fittings selected by Mrs. Jackson were added at the top and bottom of each door:
